Former United States Senator Robert Menendez has been transferred from a medium security federal prison in Pennsylvania to a minimum security facility. The transfer was first reported by New Jersey Globe.
The 71-year old, former, high ranking Democratic official, is serving an eleven year prison sentence for a bribery conviction.
He was transferred on July 1st from FCI Schuylkill to LSCI Allenwood.
Allenwood is located approximately 75 miles north of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Menendez began serving his federal sentence on June 17. He continues to appeal his conviction for taking gold bars, a luxury Mercedes, and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash in exchange for acting as a foreign agent of the government of Egypt. The prosecution successfully argued its case, stating Menendez committed his crimes while serving in the Senate as Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee.
