The most recent problem took place on January 4 after police received a report of a man breaking into and entering an abandoned building at 51st Street and Meadowview Avenue. When officers confronted the man he allegedly told them he entered the building to drink alcohol. Eighteen-year-old Christopher Cruz was arrested and taken to police headquarters. That’s when police say the North Bergen resident began making threats that he was going to shoot police in the chest and blow up North Bergen police vehicles.
Cruz was charged with criminal trespass, two counts of making terroristic threats and possession and consumption of alcohol. He was taken to the Hudson County jail in Kearney and his bail was set at $30,000.
Early on New Year’s day, an altercation occurred in the area of 5th Street and Kennedy Boulevard. This after a 24-year-old Jersey City resident was confronted by a pedestrian while in his vehicle. Police say a 26-year-old Union City male stood in front of the victim’s vehicle so the man could not continue driving. When the victim beeped his horn, the suspect reportedly tried to slash his tire with a knife. The victim confronted the man who fled to Union City and was apprehended by police officers
Twenty-six-year-old Union City resident Brandon Winters was charged with criminal mischief and weapons possession and released on a summons.
Two Jersey City residents were recently taken into custody in connection with an assault and robbery in the area of 8th Street and Kennedy Boulevard. The trouble began on December 24 around 11:29 p.m. when a Union City resident left a party in North Bergen and was approached by a woman from the party and a man. Police say the victim thought the two wanted to talk to him but instead they allegedly assaulted him and took $40 in cash from his pockets and a small folding pocket knife. The victim sustained minor facial injuries. On January 6, 29-year-old Jose Mota and 27-year-old Sasha Valders were both charged with robbery and released on their own recognizance.
