Freeholders argue with department head over $750,000 emergency appropriation at Tuesday’s caucus meeting. Several members of the Hudson County Board of Chosen Freeholders went back and forth with Benjamin Lopez, the Director of the Department of Family Services, over the logistics of pricey annual grant.

  1. Thank you, John Heinis, and HCTV for covering this story so viewers can be informed as to the purposes and functions of our County legislative body. On the one hand, it appears the Dept. Of Family Services was trying to be good stewards of county funds by spending federal matching funds first. This exchange shows how communication skills and transparency are both vital components of good government. A salute to Freeholder Chairman Munoz and Freeholder O’Dea for asking the appropriate questions to get to the heart of the matter.
