Two months after the untimely passing of Weehawken Board of Education President Richard Barsa due to COVID-19, the BOE has unanimously chosen Township Manager Giovanni Ahmad to fill his unexpired term. The selection was made on June 8.
Ahmad, who is also a Captain on the Weehawken Volunteer First Aid Squad, as well as a Hudson County Office of Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator, will, should he choose, be able to run for a full, three-year term as BOE trustee during next year’s election.
Ahmad has served as Township Manager since replacing Jim Marchetti who retired several years ago, in February, 2015.
John Cannata has been named the new President of the Weehawken Board of Education, replacing the late-Richard Barsa, who held the position for 25 years.
