Candidates opposing Hackensack Mayor John Labrosse have landed a union endorsement from one of the largest trade unions on the East Coast.
The Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters (NRCC), with nearly 40,000 members, endorsed the Hackensack United for Progress ticket for the Hackensack City Council election on May 9th, announcing their support at a City event on Thursday.
According to John Ballantyne, Executive-Secretary Treasurer of the NRCC, the union picked the Hackensack United ticket because it wants “political leaders who will defend the middle class and its workers” and “fight for hardworking men and women in the Hackensack community.”
“We are honored to have the support of the men and women who truly are the backbone of our society,” said Rommy Buttafuoco, a Hackensack Education Association (HEA) union member running on the ticket. Another Hackensack United for Progress candidate, Mike Williams, is also a union member with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) union. Williams said the union endorsement is important because  “without the NRCC and its members, there would be no progress” in places like Hackensack.
