Kearny, NJ .- A 52-year-old man from Kearny, New Jersey, has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian seriously injured in Harrison earlier this year. Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced that Robert Marmora has been charged with Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Endangering an Injured Victim. These charges follow an investigation into the incident, which occurred on May 17, 2024.

The hit-and-run took place just after 2 a.m. near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and South 5th Street. Police responded to the scene to find a 66-year-old woman, a resident of Harrison, with severe injuries to her lower and mid-body. The striking vehicle fled the scene without providing aid. The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark for emergency treatment.

Following an investigation led by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Harrison Police Department, Marmora’s Ford EcoSport was identified as the vehicle involved in the collision. Authorities arrested Marmora at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office on September 25, 2024. He has since been released, pending a court appearance scheduled for October 17, 2024.

Prosecutor Suarez commended the efforts of the investigation team for identifying the vehicle and making an arrest in this serious case. Marmora faces two criminal charges, but the prosecutor’s office emphasized that these are merely accusations, and Marmora remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The incident has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in the area, with local officials urging drivers to remain vigilant and always stay at the scene in the event of an accident.

The legal process will continue as the case proceeds in court, and Marmora’s actions in the aftermath of the collision will be closely examined as part of the prosecution’s case.
