It was a packed house at the Hudson county Administration building in Jersey City on Friday as Sheriff Frank Schillari promoted 17 new officers to the department.
John Karras was promoted to lieutenant, and Matthew Fedrow, Richard Garcia, John Sisk and John Luzzi to the rank of sergeant.
But it’s all about the new officers, who graduated from the Essex County Police Academy last night.
“We do a seven-day a week, 24-hour patrol countywide,” Schillari says. “We assist every police department, and our main focus are all the courtrooms, the security and protection of all the judges, county buildings — and I am very proud of them that they accomplished a six-month rigorous course and they’re still gonna keep learning on the job with training officers.”
The sheriff says it’s a tough job to be a cop today.
“Around our country, with violence and gangs – so I applaud the people who choose law enforcement as a career, to put their life on the line.”
