Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today that the Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the fatal Glen Ridge car crash that resulted in two deaths.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Montclair Police Officers attempted a motor vehicle stop of a 2008 Mercedes when the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed. The Montclair Police Officers followed the vehicle with police lights activated.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office investigates all police pursuits when there is a serious injury or death. Consequently, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau will be investigating this incident.
At approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, two men were killed in a single-car fatal crash in the area of High Street and Bloomfield Avenue in Glen Ridge.
They were pronounced dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation indicates the driver hit a light pole which caused the car to hit a tree and burst into flames.
The driver of the car, Galo G. Flores, 25, of Harrison was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m. The passenger, Carlos Nieves, 20, of Newark was also pronounced dead at the scene at 10:17 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
