Ten shows yields huge results for local animal shelter.

The Fifth Annual Hoboken Comedy Festival closed Sunday and ended a week of shows which more than doubled their past contributions to the Liberty Humane Society. The Festival, which gave $1 per seat at all shows, and 100% of seats at one specific show, also implored audience members to give generously at each event. The more than 850 people in attendance gave an additional $1265 in buckets and bins passed at each show.

The ten shows featured four days of new talent competitions with big name headliners closing out the bill, and three days of pure headliner shows, with a dog friendly show during the day on Saturday. Saturday’s outdoor show was subsequently moved to Hoboken’s, The Shannon Bar, due to rain. Over the ten shows, Hoboken was home to 80 comedians, in six different venues, all in support of Jersey City’s Liberty Humane Society.

“What a blaring success we had this year” says Festival Coordinator Dan Frigolette, with a smile on his face, “more audience, more comedians, more donations all in the same year, I could not be happier.” Frigolette who ran all ten events partnered with the Liberty Humane Society in 2012 after he himself found their services helpful with his own adopted pet. They support low-cost animal vet clinics, adoption services, and house dozens of animals at any given moment. Located adjacent to the Liberty Science Center, LHS services all of Hudson County.

All told, the Hoboken Comedy Festival raised $2937.00, which compared to $1250 in 2013, drastically refocuses the donation goal for future years. Frigolette says he would be delighted to partner w/ the Liberty Humane Society again in 2015 and keep helping whenever he can.

Those who missed the Hoboken Comedy Festival and still care to give to donate can check out Liberty Humane Society’s largest annual event “Bark In The Park” this Saturday October 11th from Noon to 6pm in Hoboken’s Hamilton Square Park. The Hoboken Comedy Festival has provided comedian Aaron Berg to emcee the event.
