Shocking and sad news tonight coming out of the Mile Square City, as Hoboken’s Council President Jen Giattino has suddenly passed away.  The news has been confirmed by both Giattino’s husband Joe and Mayor Ravi Bhalla.

No immediate cause for her death has been announced.  Giattino was first elected to the City Council in 2011.  In a statement from her husband, Joe said, “I am heartbroken to share that my beloved wife, Jen – the love of my life and mother of our three children – passed away suddenly.”

Giattino, who ran unsuccessfully for Mayor in 2017, has been re-elected to her 6th Ward Council seat three times.

Mayor Bhalla issued the following statement, saying, “Jen’s dedication to the community will never be forgotten.  Her kindness, humility and quiet determination made her a cherished figure whose impact will be felt for generations to come.”

Hudson County Executive Craig Guy added, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Jen Giattino. Jen was a true public servant. She dedicated her life to helping the residents of Hoboken and was a leader in her community. She was also a devoted wife and mother. All of Hudson County sends sincere condolences to Jen’s family.”

Giattino served as Council President six times, returning to the role earlier this year in January.

Prior to entering politics, Giattino was a professional ballet dancer and then worked as a broker for a major brokerage firm.
