On January 21st, Fire Department was dispatched to the address of 512 Park Avenue on a report of an active fire. As Officers were clearing the building of residents, they met with a 22-year-old male Jose Piedrahita, on the 3rd floor landing area. Officers noticed he had blisters on his forehead along with soot on his face and body. Medical Personnel were called to the scene to tend the man.
Inside the apartment they observed in plain view items that were distinct in use for the Distribution of CDS, including Mesh Screens and Pipes used to smoke marijuana. The NJ State Police were contacted to help dismantled the operation due to volatile substances. The Detectives were also requested to the scene. Detectives arrived and secured the scene while and application for a search warrant was made. Mr Piedrahita was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment and later charged. Mr Piedrahita received 1st and 2nd Degree burns.
A search warrant uncovered over 25 pounds of CDS Marijuana, numerous paraphernalia items used to make and package the CDS along with over $40,000 dollars of suspected proceeds from the sale of CDS.
A warrant complaint was made for the owner of the apartment, Daniel Altomare who subsequently turned himself in to answer for the charges.
Charges: Maintaining/Operating a controlled Dangerous Substance production facility.
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana 5 pounds or more, less than 25 pounds.
Possession with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school
Possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a park.
