Get ready for some changes to the Hop shuttle’s free service in Hoboken. Today, Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced the City will pilot new Hop service hours on the Green, Blue, and Red Hop shuttles to better meet the needs of Hoboken residents. The changes will be starting on Monday, May 15.
“We are always looking for ways to improve and enhance our service to meet the needs of residents,” said Mayor Bhalla, “and we heard your feedback loud and clear. We look forward to these modifications to better serve those who use the Hop and continuing to meet the growing demand in the months ahead.”
Hop shuttle service will now operate from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays over the next six weeks. According to the Mayor, the pilot program aims to alleviate morning congestion due to high commuter ridership to the Hoboken terminal area. Currently, the Blue, Green, and Red Hop service lines have the highest demand between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., with Hop shuttles at or exceeding standard capacity on average.

Over the past twelve months, ridership has increased approximately 110 percent compared to last year. Passenger boardings from January 18, 2022, to May 10, 2022, stood at 19,017. That number surged from January 18 of this year to May 10, 2023, at 39,919.
The Hoboken Department of Transportation and Parking will analyze the data collected throughout the pilot period with the aim of better serving Hop riders in the fall.
The Senior Shuttle will continue to operate as scheduled between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
The City’s Hop shuttle service offers residents and visitors free transportation on four routes throughout Hoboken. Approximately 90 percent of Hoboken households are located within a five-minute walk of the Blue, Green, and Red Hop routes. Riders can track Hop shuttles in real time via the PassioGo app and website and can flag down a shuttle at any intersection to get on the bus.
