Hoboken Man Arrested for Lewdness in Church Square Park

HOBOKEN, NJ – The Hoboken Police Department has reported the arrest of a local resident, Wander Torres, 32, for committing a lewd act in Church Square Park. The incident occurred on Friday, Aug. 25, around 10:40 a.m.

Responding to reports, Police Officers James Barbro and Roberto Cuevas arrived at the park, located at 400 Garden St. The caller identified the suspect, who was seen exposing himself near the Fifth Street and Park Avenue entrance. Torres, who is currently unhoused, resisted providing his identity and threatened the individual who reported him.

Following the arrest, Torres was taken to the Hoboken Police Headquarters. He faces charges of lewdness and making terroristic threats. Additionally, an active warrant from Union City for disorderly conduct was discovered.

This incident adds to the growing concerns about quality-of-life issues in the vicinity of Church Square Park. In response, the city, along with the Public Safety and Police Departments, are intensifying routine patrols in the area. Moreover, Hoboken’s team of social workers is actively engaging with the homeless population in various locations, including Church Square Park, to offer essential services.
