38-year old Abdush-Shahududdin Sharif of Newark has been arrested by the Hoboken Police Department in connection with a reported home invasion and weapons offenses following an investigation led by Det. Jesse Castellano of the Detective Bureau’s Major Crime Unit.
According to a press release, Hoboken Police responded to a reported home invasion on Tuesday, January 13th which occurred at a residence on Court Street. The victim reported that an unknown male had entered his apartment without permission and that a verbal altercation followed. The victim further reported that the suspect made threatening statements and appeared to reach toward his waistband before leaving the home.
Detectives conducted an investigation that included reviewing multiple security videos from nearby residences, garages, and businesses, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses. Based on that investigation, detectives identified the suspect and disseminated an All-Points Bulletin to law enforcement agencies.
Two days later, on Thursday, January 15th, at approximately 6:02 p.m., police officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Court Street following a report of a suspicious male matching the BOLO description. Officers located the individual, later identified as Sharif.
During the investigation, it was determined that Sharif was the individual depicted in the BOLO. He was subsequently placed under arrest. A search resulted in the recovery of a box cutter and a loaded Ruger LC9s 9mm handgun.
Sharif was transported to Hoboken Police Headquarters, where he was processed on the following charges:
· Home Invasion – First Degree
· Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose – Second Degree
· Unlawful Possession of a Weapon – Second Degree
After processing, Sharif was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation and was later remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
