Hoboken police officers grow facial hair to raise prostate cancer awareness

If Hoboken police officers seem to be sporting a bit more facial hair this November, it’s all for a good cause.  More than 30 members are participating in Movember, an international movement in which men grow facial hair as a way of starting a conversation about prostate and testicular cancers.

The American Cancer Society estimates about 233,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 and around 29,480 males will lose their lives.  Prostate cancer does not have to end in tragedy.  If caught early on, it can be cured.  Regular exams and PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) tests are the key.  Movember participants are hoping to raise awareness so more men undergo screening.
