Bicycle valet service is returning to the Hoboken Terminal on Monday, May 6. Hoboken has announced the return of Citi Bike valet service at the Hoboken Terminal, in partnership with Lyft, prioritizing accessibility and convenience for commuters.
The goal of the service is to improve residents’ journeys to and from the transportation hub, particularly during peak hours, by eliminating the hassle of finding vacant docking space or a bicycle around Hoboken Terminal during rush hours.
A city press release states, “Through the program, valet staff will ensure the availability of dock space and bikes at the Hoboken Terminal - River Street docking station on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The valet service is free for all Citi Bike riders. The docking station is located on River Street between Hudson Place and Newark Street. The relaunch of the valet service comes less than a year after the City added a new docking station at the intersection of River Street and First Street that expanded dock capacity by 19 percent in the Hoboken Terminal area. Citi Bike ridership in Hoboken surged 20 percent over the last year.”
Mayor Ravi Bhalla stated, “The return of the valet service will ensure that anyone who uses Citi Bike to get to and from Hoboken Terminal during the morning rush hour does not have to worry about docking availability. It’s the latest way we are committed to strengthening our sustainable transportation options for residents and visitors. Thank you to Lyft for working with my administration to reinstate this program.”
“Hoboken residents continue to ride Citi Bike more and more each year,” said Patrick Knoth, General Manager at Citi Bike. “We’re excited to offer a valet at our Hoboken Terminal station to ensure that riders have bikes and docks available where they need them most.”
Lyft, the bike share service’s owner and operator, will monitor valet usage throughout the week and may adjust hours based on demand, so riders are encouraged to check the Citi Bike app for current valet availability on weekdays.
Lyft and the City offer Hoboken Housing Authority residents and SNAP recipients discounted memberships that cost $5 per month or $60 annually. Full-price membership costs $219.99 annually.
