Hoboken, NJ – The Hoboken Police Department proudly announces the commencement of the Third Annual Sgt. Peter Zanin “Peachy” Toy Drive for the 2023 holiday season. This heartwarming event, dedicated to the memory of the beloved sergeant, began last night at the City’s Community Tree Lighting, with numerous residents contributing to the toy collection.
Sgt. Zanin, affectionately known as “Peachy,” was a dedicated father of three and a 20-year veteran of the Hoboken Police Department. His sudden passing in 2020 left a void in the community he served with passion. Renaming the annual toy drive in his honor, the HPD pays homage to Sgt. Zanin’s commitment to various community initiatives, including the Toys for Tots toy drive.
This year’s toy drive is a collaborative effort between the Hoboken Police Department, the Hoboken Fire Department, and the Hoboken Office of Constituent Services. Together, they aim to gather gifts for distribution at several local events, including the Hoboken Grace Church Christmas Exchange and the Hoboken Housing Authority Winter Wonderland Party.
The Hoboken community is encouraged to participate by donating new, unwrapped toys, books, and other gifts. These donations will bring joy to hundreds of local families in need. Donations can be made at the following locations and times:
- Hoboken Police Headquarters, 106 Hudson St., available 24/7 through December 13.
- Hoboken Fire Department, 1313 Washington St., from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through December 13.
- Hoboken City Hall, 94 Washington St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through December 13.
- Special events like the Hudson County Tree Lighting and the Artisan Market.
Police Chief Steven Aguiar expressed pride in the officers’ dedication to making the holiday season brighter for Hoboken’s children. Captain Gino Jacobelli, who organized this year’s drive, emphasized the tradition’s role in uniting the community for a noble cause.
