The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department continue to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, just past 5 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified that shots were fired in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Responding officers found a man – later identified as 27-year old, Jersey City resident Jamaal George – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly past 5:30 a.m. As of Monday morning, the cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
No arrests have been made at this time.
