Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, began on Sunday night.  On Monday evening, December 15th, Hudson County Executive Craig Guy and the Board of County Commissioners hosted the annual Hudson County Menorah Lighting Ceremony at the Historic Brennan Court House in Jersey City.  County Executive Guy was joined by Board of County Commissioners Chairman Anthony L. Romano, Kearny Mayor Carol Jean Doyle, Hoboken Councilwoman Tiffanie Fisher, and representatives from Congressman Rob Menendez and Hoboken Mayor-Elect Emily Jabbour’s offices.

“Chanukah is a time of celebration. It is a time for family, for community, for spending time with those you love. Unfortunately, this year’s celebrations have been marred with tragedy as 15 people were killed in a brutal, senseless terrorist attack in Australia. We need to call this horrible tragedy for what it really is: an antisemitic attack on our brothers and sisters in the Jewish community,” remarked County Executive Guy.  “As we see more and more acts of antisemitism across our country and throughout the world, we in Hudson County need to come together – government leaders, religious leaders, community leaders – to call out this terrible hatred for what it is. Silence is complicity. Anti-Semitic attacks are unacceptable in 2025 in Hudson County, America and in the world.”
