A preliminary investigation determined the 52-year-old driver of a 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling west in the eastbound lane of the road when his vehicle sideswiped a 2012 Kia sedan, driven by a 20-year-old Fords woman.

The 52-year-old continued on the wrong side of the road before crashing head-on with a 2018 Hyundai sedan, driven by a 28-year-old Jersey City man. The driver of the Nissan Altima was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:13 a.m.  His name is being withheld until a formal identification is made.

Both of the other drivers reported being injured in the crash. The 20-year-old woman declined medical attention and the 28-year old man was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center to be treated for injuries that are not considered life threatening.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this incident.
