An illegal immigrant from Honduras died last month while being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny, and now a local activist group and Jersey City lawyer question whether he received the proper medical care.
The Honduran national, Rolando Meza Espinoza, died June 10th. According to the community group Hudson Civic Action and Jersey City lawyer Howard Moskowitz, Espinoza was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and then died of “hemorrhagic shock” and “internal bleeding.”
Moskowitz and the civic organization are questioning whether Meza received the proper medical care while in custody at the county facility. Moskowitz has filed a public records request seeking records relating to Meza.
