Hundreds of North Bergen Residents Receive Free Turkeys and Thanksgiving Trimmings

There’s no place like North Bergen for Thanksgiving, according to a North Bergen resident at today’s annual Thanksgiving drive at the township’s recreational center.

Over 1,000 turkeys, boxes of mashed potatoes, packaged stuffing, and canned vegetables were distributed to North Bergen residents in need of assistance. Funding was provided by the Nicholas J. Foundation and CarePoint Health.

Greeting residents as they arrived were Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Commissioners Hugo D. Cabrera, Julio Marenco, Allen Pascual, Frank Gargiulo, and volunteers.

“It’s always great to see Mayor Sacco,” said Marina Lopez. “We appreciate his work on behalf of our community. I’ll be cooking for my family. There are five of us.”

This is the fifth year, turkeys and some popular Thanksgiving trimmings are distributed to local residents. Vouchers were previously provided to those requesting assistance.

According to township officials, meals will also be delivered to residents requesting assistance. Senior citizens qualify for cooked Thanksgiving meal deliveries.

This year, North Bergen presented eight pantries in North Hudson with a check of $500 each to help with operating expenses.
