Jersey City Driver Charged in 2024 Hit-And-Run Which Seriously Injured Bayonne Bicyclist

An arrest has been made in a 2024 Jersey City hit-and-run accident which seriously injured a bicyclist.  The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit has arrested 26-year old Dinesh Budhram of Jersey City.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Budhram has been charged with Assault by Auto (driving while intoxicated in a school zone), a crime of the second degree; Assault by Auto, a crime of the third degree; Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, a crime of the third degree; and Endangering an Injured Victim, a crime of the third degree.

The arrest was made at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Thursday, March 6, 2025.  Budhram was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.

According to a press release from Prosecutor Suarez’s office, “On Saturday, May 25, 2024, shortly before 5 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a bicyclist struck in the area of Garfield Avenue, Gates Avenue, and Seaview Avenue. Responding officers located a male bicyclist, later identified as a 21-year-old Bayonne resident, with life-threatening injuries. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene. During the preliminary investigation, a vehicle and person of interest were identified.”

The above charges are merely accusations and Budhram is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
