Jersey City Man apprehended in West New York after attempted break in.

on Thursday July 2nd, Richard Medina a 49-year-old Jersey City resident, was apprehended and charged in West New York.   At approximately 11:00am, Police were dispatched when a possible burglary suspect was reported going into 11 Avenue at Port Imperial in West New York. When Det. Sgt. Clement, Det. Fontanez, and Det. Oms arrived at the scene, several workers in the area pointed out the suspect to police. He was later identified as Richard Medina.

While being interrogated, Mr. Medina was found to have a long screwdriver and a pair of work gloves. Mr. Medina admitted in a recorded statement that he was found on the roof of 517 Harbor place when the victim came home and found him attempting to break in through a screen door.

According to the police report, “Mr. Medina also admitted to being on the property and in the buildings on June 6, 2014 where there was a burglary committed and $7, 500 worth of jewelry was stolen.” Mr. Medina was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, and two counts of criminal mischief and placed in custody by police.
