Six months following a serious accident which injured a Jersey City motorcyclist, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of a hit-and-run driver. According to Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Jersey City on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
The arrest took place on Monday, March 10,2025. 38-year old Nicholas Ortiz of Jersey City has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury; endangering an injured victim; and tampering with physical evidence. He was arrested in the area of Jersey Avenue and Aetna Street in Jersey City and then transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
A press release from the Hudson County Prosecutor states, “At approximately 10:30 a.m. on September 21, 2024, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a collision involving a motorcycle and a sedan in the area of Broadway and Wright Avenue. Responding officers located the motorcycle operator, a 14-year-old juvenile male, with a serious injury to a lower extremity. The sedan involved, later identified as a Lexus IS operated by Ortiz, did not remain at the scene. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.”
