Jersey City man arrested with 9mm imitation handgun in Bayonne

A 44-year-old Omar M. Vera of Jersey City was taken into custody at 1101 hours from the area of 31st Street and Avenue A when Police responded to reports of people using narcotics inside a parked vehicle.

According to the report,  officers located Vera and a female passenger seated inside a parked Ford Explorer under the control of Vera. During the on-scene investigation, officers learned that Vera was wanted on two outstanding municipal court warrants and were also able to located and recover a 9mm EKOL Viper handgun from inside the vehicle. The gun was later determined to be an imitation firearm (does not shoot live rounds, only blanks) and Vera could not provide a lawful purpose for possessing the handgun.

Vera was charged with a Warrant arrest (2 charges)

Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
