Jersey City Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Shooting Last Month

An arrest has been made in connection to a fatal Jersey City shooting which took place in the Bergen-Lafayette section on Sunday, September 28, 2025.  According to Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested 26-year-old Shakeem Clarke.

Clarke has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, endangering an injured victim, and certain persons not to possess a weapon.  He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Friday, October 3, 2025, and taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first court appearance.

According to a press release from the Prosecutor’s Office, “Shortly after 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots fired in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Responding officers located a male – later identified as Jamaal George, 27, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 a.m.”

Acting Prosecutor Mello say the charges against Clarke are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
