A juvenile charged in connection with the 2024 fatal shooting of John Dominguez has been waived up to criminal court and will be prosecuted as an adult according to Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello.
19-year old Ramel Johnson of Jersey City is charged with manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Johnson was 17 at the time of the offense.
A press release from the Prosecutor’s Office states, “Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Bayonne Police Department and the Bayonne Fire Department were notified of an unresponsive male inside an apartment at 124 West Third Street. The male – later identified as John Dominguez, 17, of Bayonne – was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Bayonne Medical Center. He was pronounced dead just after 3 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Torso and the Manner to be Homicide.”
The charges against Johnson are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
