A known female drug violator and a Newark felon are facing drug charges after officers seized heroin, cocaine and firearms during a traffic stop in Kearny.
Carol Enright, 37, of Kearny was in a car driven by Gilberto Rivera on Maple and Liberty Streets, where they engaged in a drug deal.
Enright was charged with possession of heroin, distribution of heroin, possession of paraphernalia and possession of a paging device while committing a controlled substance offense.
A bail of $50,000 cash only was set for Rivera, 33, in his first court appearance from the Hudson County Jail in Kearny.
Rivera was charged with possession of 10 bags of suspected heroin with intent to distribute, near a school (Kearny High School) and public property (Windsor Playground).
He was also charged with possession with intent to distribute 125 bags of suspected heroin with the logo “Wall Street,” within 1,000 feet of school property and within 500 feet of public property, the complaint says.
Officers also recovered a loaded 357 Magnum, 243 bags of “He-Man,” 59 bags of “Game 6,” 58 bags of “Scarface,” one bag of Blackjack and suspected cocaine — leading to additional charges of possession of cocaine, unlawful possession of a handgun and certain persons not to have firearms.
According to court officials, Rivera has eight prior arrests — including kidnapping, terroristic threats, three firearms offenses, two counts of drug possession with intent to distribute near a school and one count of drug possession with intent to distribute near public property.
