Long Island Man Arrested by Insurance Fraud Unit for Submitting Fraudulent Vehicle Claim

Jersey City, NJ – Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced the arrest of a 32-year-old man from Nesconset, New York, on charges of insurance fraud. Louis Volpe, formerly a resident of Hoboken, was taken into custody by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit on Thursday, March 16, 2023, following an investigation into a fraudulent insurance claim he submitted for his motor vehicle.

Volpe is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:21-4.6a, a third-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City and released pending his first court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court, which is tentatively scheduled for March 23, 2023.

The investigation revealed that Volpe filed a claim with Progressive Insurance and intentionally provided them with incorrect information regarding water damage sustained by his 2016 Jeep Cherokee. He also knowingly concealed the fact that the Jeep had pre-existing mold damage. Prosecutor Suarez credited the members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit for their diligent work on the investigation and arrest.

It is important to note that the above charge is an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty, as per R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
