Man Dies After Jumping Off NJ Turnpike Extension Bridge

JERSEY CITY – At around 6:53 p.m. Sunday night, JCFD and JCPD ESU units responded to reports of a man threatening to jump off the NJ Turnpike extension bridge at Garfield Ave. and Bayview Ave, officials said.

Upon arrival, the man, described as in his late 20’s, had already jumped approximately 55 ft. off the bridge, landing on the train tracks below.

Members of the JCFD and JCPD carried the man to an awaiting ambulance and he was rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the circumstances involved in this incident.
