Man Dies in Jersey City Fire; Arson Task Force Probing Incident

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has shared details on a tragic fire currently under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department.

The fire occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. The Jersey City Fire Department responded to a call shortly after 10 a.m. regarding a fire at 121 Garfield Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames coming from a third-floor bedroom of a three-story residential building. During firefighting efforts, they found an injured man, later identified as 56-year-old Pablo Renta of Jersey City. He was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 7 p.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though foul play is not suspected at this time.
