Nearly two years after a man was fatally stabbed in Jersey City, his killer has been sentenced to 18 years behind bars in New Jersey State Prison. According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the sentence was handed down on Friday, June 9, 2023, by the Honorable Judge Vincent Militello in Hudson County Superior Court.
Militello sentenced 57-year old Steven Bardsley for the 2021 stabbing death of 54-year old, Steven Bochman in Jersey City. Bardsley, a Jersey City resident, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated manslaughter on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Suarez says the sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act.
Prosecutor Suarez stated, “On Saturday, July 24, 2021, just after 10 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of 151 Cambridge Avenue where they found a lifeless adult male victim – later identified as Steven Bochman – with a stab wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:20 p.m.”
