The bullets keep flying in Jersey City. Wednesday night a man lost his life near the Salem Lafayette housing complex.
It’s a familiar story and residents say they are not surprised by more violence.
This is the 12th homicide in the city and 14th this year in Hudson County.
According to a spokesperson for the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, the male victim was shot near Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street, where officers found him on the sidewalk.
Alshaakir Talmadge, of Jersey City suffered gunshot wounds to the upper body during the incident.
Police say the 20-year-old was unresponsive and immediately treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.
He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and succumbed to his injuries at 11:40pm.
The cause and manner of Talmadge’s death are pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner.
No arrests have been made and the Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case, with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
