(BAYONNE, NJ) – Bayonne Mayor Jimmy Davis today announced that the City of Bayonne will be conducting a flag raising ceremony on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall (630 Avenue C) to recognize both the City’s LGBTQ+ community and the City’s commitment to the development of LGBTQ+ inclusive policies. LGBTQ+ individuals, supporters, allies, elected officials and community leaders are invited to attend this ceremony.
In concert with the Hudson Pride Center, the City of Bayonne is developing LGBTQ+ inclusive policies, such as appointing a LGBTQ+ officer liaison and establishing cultural competency training methodologies, and working with LGBTQ+ individuals, advocacy groups and supporters to advance equality and inclusivity in Bayonne. Michael Billy, CEO of Hudson Pride Center, and Elizabeth Schedl, COO of Hudson Pride Center, will be participating in the flag raising ceremony.
“Bayonne’s flag raising ceremony will underscore the City of Bayonne’s commitment to stand with the LGBTQ+ community,” said Mayor Davis, “and we invite everyone to join us in this celebration of advocacy, awareness, dignity, diversity, equality, inclusivity, unity and visibility.”
In addition to the flag raising ceremony at 4:00 p.m., the Bayonne Medical Center is hosting an LGBTQ+ Health Event in conjunction with the Hudson Pride Center and an “Open Minds, Open Hearts, Open Mic” open microphone event will be held in the evening at Shorty’s (located at 279 Broadway) in Bayonne.
