Moving Jersey City Election is discussed at Council Caucus Meeting

Mayor Steve Fulop of Jersey City has asked for feedback on moving the election for mayor from May to November. At last night’s Council Caucus Meeting a resolution was introduced on the agenda stating:

“Resolution directing the Hudson County Clerk to place non-binding referendum on the ballot of the next ensuing General Election as to whether or not the Municipal Council should change the date of it regular municipal election from the second Tuesday in May to the day of the general election in November.”

Some people feel it is being purposed so that Fulop can still run for mayor even if he looses the democratic primary for governor. However, according to a press release from the office of Fulop, “The move would increase efficiencies, save approximately $400,000 and alleviate voter fatigue. “
