Jersey City, NJ A hidden camera discovered in a JC Penney bathroom at Newport Centre Mall has sparked a police investigation, with officers now urging potential victims to come forward. This incident has raised alarms about privacy and security in public spaces.
The device was found on August 9 by a woman who promptly turned it over to the authorities. The camera contained footage implicating multiple victims, including 35 adult women and four female minors, and even a couple engaged in intimate activities, all captured without consent. An 18-year-old Andy Cardenas of Jersey City, has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The police, particularly the Special Victims Unit, are involved, releasing images from the camera to help identify if other restrooms might also be compromised. They are calling for anyone who might have noticed suspicious activities or devices in restrooms around the area during the time the camera was active to contact them.
Cardenas has been released on a summons with a scheduled court appearance for October 22, 2024.
