NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — On Wednesday evening, the North Bergen Housing Authority held a summer banquet and ribbon cutting ceremony for all of its residents. The event was well attended, with elected officials Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Commissioners Hugo Cabrera and Julio Marenco in attendance.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to get out of the heat and interact with friends, while enjoying great food and music,” said Executive Director Gerald Sanzari. “Our Housing Authority team works hard to make these events happen and I am thankful to everyone that joined us.”
The Mayor and Commissioners also cut a ribbon recognizing the grand reopening of the community room at the Theresa Ferraro Building. The building recently underwent renovations which included a new roof, sealing of the parking deck, new carpeting in the hallways on each floor, an upgrade to LED Lighting throughout the building common areas, repainting the community room and new vinyl floors with a wood look were installed in the penthouse community room.
“The affordable housing building opened in 2001 and was beginning to show its age,” said Sanzari. “The NBHA along with the building owners the North Bergen Renaissance Corp are committed to keeping this location a clean, safe and premier building for our seniors.”
Mayor Sacco noted that the building was dedicated to the late commissioner Theresa Ferraro, who was also a former Housing Authority Commissioner. It was a fitting dedication to a great woman and the building is a great reflection on her memory. He pointed out that Anthony Ferraro, the late Commissioners son and a present commissioner on the North Bergen Housing Authority and North Bergen Renaissance Boards was in attendance at the party. The Mayor thanked Gerald Sanzari and his team at the housing authority for their great work in keeping all of their properties well maintained.
“I would personally like to thank the North Bergen Housing Authority for putting on this great event,” said Mayor Sacco. “Our seniors are a crucial part of our town and it is important to me to see that they are being treated well. This sense of community is what we strive for in North Bergen.”
This was one of a number of events that the Housing Authority has put together for its residents and it is planning on additional events in future months. The party had a patriotic theme, recognizing the recent Flag Day and Independence Day holiday. The Housing Authority is looking forward to making this an annual event.
