On June 4, 2019, detectives from the Special Victims Unit of the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor arrested Oscar Juracan-Juracan, age 26, of North Bergen, in connection with an aggravated sexual assault during a burglary which occurred inside a residence on 4th Avenue in North Bergen on the morning of May 25, 2019. He was arrested without incident at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City.
Juracan-Juracan has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, first-degree crimes; Burglary in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:18-2, a second-degree crime; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3, a third-degree crime; and Simple Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1, a disorderly persons offense.
Juracan-Juracan is scheduled to make his first appearance on these charges in Criminal Justice Reform Court in the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant.
On May 25, 2019, members of the Prosecutor’s Office SVU and the North Bergen Police Department responded to a report of a sexual assault on 4th Avenue in North Bergen. A 49-year-old female victim reported that she was awakened and sexually assaulted by an unknown male.
Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit for the investigation and subsequent arrest with assistance from the North Bergen Police Department.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
