North Bergen man arrested for selling marijuana to undercover police officer.
West New York — On August 13, Benu A. Olan, of North Bergen, NJ, offered to sell marijuana to Detective Shabazz in the park at 67th St. and Palisade Ave.
Shabazz approached a group playing basketball regarding the purchase of marijuana. Olan, described as wearing a black shirt with a ponytail, was sitting inside the court. He asked Shabazz how much he wanted. Shabazz said, “one dime.”
Olan, age 23, was hiding the marijuana behind his back in a blue plastic water bottle.
As Shabazz motioned to pull money out of his pocket, he saw Detective Mannion, who was accompanying Shabazz, walk toward them. Mannion was displaying his badge.
Olan warned Shabazz, “Hold up. This guy is a cop. Sit down.”
Shabazz sat next to Olan. Olan continued to hand Shabazz a glassine baggie of marijuana behind his back.
Shabazz gave Mannion a sign that it was a positive sale for CDS.
The two detectives then identified themselves as police officers.
Detective Mateos and Detective Sgt. Nunez also were set up in the area.
Recently, there have been many complaints of CDS activity in the park at 67th St. and Palisade Ave.
