North Bergen School Board Candidate Back On Ballot, Orders State Court

A North Bergen man was reinstated to the school board ballot next month after a Hudson County Superior Court judge ruled the town’s board of education improperly disqualified him.

Jose Santos will be able to run in the April 25, 2017 school board election, as the court reversed the board’s ruling at its March 8th meeting. The School board found that Santos was not a North Bergen resident.

However, Santos’ lawyer, Mario Blanch of West New York, claimed in a statement that Santos’ petition was disqualified two days after he got into a car accident with the wife of North Bergen Police Chief Robert Dowd, who was allegedly making an illegal u-turn, and after he produced an out of state driver’s license to police responding to the scene. Blanch questioned in his statement how the town’s board of education got the information about the out of state license.
