45-Year-Old Man Charged for Causing Serious Injuries in a Car Accident

Jersey City- In a recent development, Patrick Gapasin, a 45-year-old resident of Jersey City, has been arrested and charged in connection with a severe collision that took place earlier this year. The incident left a 60-year-old driver with multiple serious injuries.

The Hudson County Prosecutor, Esther Suarez, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, August 17, 2023. Gapasin faces charges of Aggravated Assault and Assault by Auto. Following his arrest at his residence, he was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he awaits his initial court appearance.

The collision in question occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2023, around 7:55 a.m. The Jersey City Police Department was alerted about a crash near the intersection of Routes 1 and 9 and Sip Avenue. On arrival, officers found two heavily damaged vehicles – a Honda Accord driven by the 60-year-old victim and an Infinity Q60 operated by Gapasin.

Preliminary investigations suggest that Gapasin was driving north on Routes 1 and 9 at an excessive speed when he collided with the Honda Accord at the Sip Avenue intersection. Both drivers were immediately transported to the Jersey City Medical Center for medical attention. The 60-year-old driver’s condition was reported as serious due to multiple injuries sustained from the crash.

Prosecutor Suarez expressed gratitude to the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for their diligent work in the investigation and subsequent arrest. It’s essential to note that the charges against Gapasin are accusations at this stage, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
