A smoky 2-alarm fire involved a three-story mixed occupancy building at 5611-5613 Palisade Avenue, West New York, Monday morning.

Preliminary reports believe the fire started in a storage area for the corner bodega, on the ground floor, and spread through the walls of the structure.  Occupants evacuated the apartments above the bodega and a barber shop, and gathered in the street.

Firefighters located a pet cat and North Hudson Fire Captain Robert D’Antonio returned feline to its owner.
