34-year-old Tyron Simms of Plainfield, NJ was charged with robbery and resisting arrest, Bayonne Police said in a press release.

Simms was taken into custody at 0858 hours from the area of Andrew Street. While on patrol, an officer observed Simms involved in a physical altercation with two females on the corner of 18th Street and JFK Blvd. As the officer parked on scene, Simms fled on foot westbound on 18th Street and eventually onto Andrew Street where the officer lost sight of him. The officer radioed Simms’ description to all available units and a search on Andrew Street for Simms ensued. Simms was ultimately located on the roof of 90 Andrew Street and taken into custody. The witness and the original officer were able to positively identify Simms as the actor.

During the investigation, the 30 year old female victim of Bayonne stated that as she was walking on JFK Blvd. with her friend, they were approached by Simms who demanded the victim’s cell phone. When she refused to give him the phone, he attempted to remove it from her possession by force and began to choke the victim. Simms was then able to gain possession of the phone and flee at the same time the officer observed the altercation. The destroyed cell phone was located in the yard of 93 West 17th Street.

The victim refused medical attention and Simms was treated at the Bayonne Medical Center for an injury to his hand.

Simms was taken to the Hudson County Jail.
