On June 28, 2025, Secaucus Police responded to two incidents on Front Street. At Spotless Mind Hair Studio, the owner reported that a large rock was thrown through the glass front door overnight, shattering it. Later that morning, a nearby resident reported that their American flag was set on fire, damaging the flag, its pole, and charring the home’s siding, posing a reckless risk to the structure. The fire extinguished itself.
Following a week-long investigation, Secaucus Police detectives identified Joherik D. Urena, 30, of West New York, as the suspect in both incidents. He was arrested on July 8, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. based on evidence collected.
Chief Dennis Miller praised the detectives’ swift and thorough work, expressing relief that the fire did not spread further while residents were asleep. He also acknowledged Secaucus PBA Local 84 for providing the resident with a new American flag.
Urena faces charges of Arson [2C:17-3a(1)] and Criminal Mischief [2C:20-3(a)]. He was released pending his court appearance. These charges are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
