A suspect and a victim are arrested in a drug-related robbery Tuesday night in North Bergen at a home on 68th Street and Kennedy Boulevard.
Armed with a loaded Glock 9MM handgun, township resident Debbier Alvarez, 27, and another person knocked on the apartment door at 10:10 pm and were greeted by the 28-year-old victim. The suspects then forced themselves into the apartment, according to police Sgt. Bronson Jusino.
The second suspect held back another victim, but ran when he saw Alvarez and the first victim start fighting, Jusino says. The victims took the gun from Alvarez and held him down until police arrived.
Police seized the handgun from the couch, along with several large Ziploc bags of marijuana and $6,555 in cash from the apartment.
Alvarez was charged with robbery, possession of a firearm for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of firearm for unlawful purpose and receiving stolen property.
His bail has not yet been determined and he is currently in the custody of Hudson County Corrections.
The victim was charged with multiple drug offenses, including possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS and possession of drug paraphernalia, and then released. Police did not give his name since he was a crime victim.
