Senator Sacco Supports Court Decision to Close Keegan Landfill, Calls on State to Begin Process of Capping Facility

NORTH BERGEN, NJ– Senator Nicholas J. Sacco is releasing the following statement supporting the court decision made earlier today to close the Keegan Landfill:

“This ruling is a victory for the people of Kearny and all of Hudson County, and it could not have happened without the leadership of Mayor Al Santos and the many residents and advocates who made their voices heard on this important issue. Closing the Keegan Landfill is the only way to fully ensure that the people of Kearny, Harrison and East Newark are protected and kept safe, so I applaud the Hudson County Superior Court’s ruling. Now that this decision has been made, I believe that the appropriate course of action is for the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority to immediately move toward capping the landfill so that it can one day be transformed from a blight on these communities into something that enhances them. I trust that that State will act in the best interests of residents and move forward with a plan to end this nightmare for the people of West Hudson.”
