Monday night’s intense storms, flooding and high winds have temporarily forced the closure of the West New York municipal swimming pool, located on the Palisade cliffside along 60th Street.
Recreation Department Supervisor Tanya Rodriguez told Hudson TV this morning, that while it appears no structural or physical damage resulted from last night’s severe weather, the pool and adjacent grounds suffered a tremendous amount of brush debris from the high winds, with branches and foliage strewn all around the property and in the water.
The Recreation Department, as a result, has closed the pool, while maintenance workers clean the area.
Rodriguez says the hope is that the weather will cooperate, allowing the site to be cleaned so the swimming pool can reopen to the public on Wednesday, but that determination will not be made until tomorrow.
For now, West New York’s swimming pool remains closed to the public.
