Steven Fulop Governor Endorsement

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — SMART-TD Local 60, a union representing over 1,600 NJ TRANSIT conductors, has endorsed Steven Fulop for Governor. This endorsement comes after Fulop’s recent unveiling of a Transportation and Infrastructure plan, which emphasizes improvements to NJ TRANSIT’s service, reliability, and expansion. The plan aligns with the priorities of SMART-TD Local 60 members.

Jerome Johnson, the General Chairman of SMART-TD Local 60, expressed his support, stating that Fulop’s campaign demonstrates a genuine concern for public transit. Johnson believes that Fulop’s initiatives will not only enhance transportation systems but also promote union jobs and boost the middle-class economy in New Jersey.

Several other prominent labor unions have also endorsed Fulop’s campaign, including the Amalgamated Transit Workers Union International, New Jersey Council, and four Teamsters locals. Additionally, the campaign has garnered support from the major healthcare workers union District 1199J and various political leaders across the state.

Mayor Fulop expressed his gratitude to the SMART-LD Local 60 members, emphasizing their crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of NJ TRANSIT trains. He reiterated his commitment to investing in NJ TRANSIT and prioritizing both riders and employees.

It’s noteworthy that SMART-TD Local 60 recently finalized a contract with NJ TRANSIT in July and is not currently in negotiations with the state.
