West New York’s Memorial High School Performing Arts Academy is staging a very unique play, written entirely by 16 students who interviewed 9 senior citizens about their lives growing up in the municipality, and how times have changed since they were teenagers.
The play, “16 Teens, 9 Senior Citizens,” in the words of Mayor Albio Sires, is “development appreciation.” Its concept was the idea of Beth Baur, the acting instructor for the school’s Performing Arts Academy.

Approximately seven interview sessions between the students and the senior citizens were held. The students said they gained a greater understanding of the seniors, realizing they weren’t all that different from them when they were younger.
The final performance will take place on Saturday, February 7th at 7 pm. Tickets for the play are $8 and may be purchased at the door.
